Fam trip series: Athens

Birthplace of the olympic games, the southernmost capital on European mainland, and the home of democracy…

Athens is a Greek city with a rich history and strong culture that still attracts visitors from all over the world.

Our PR & Communications Executive, Steph, recently visited the Greek capital on a FAM trip with Travelmediate and EZGreece, who put together an incredible itinerary that showcased the best of what Athens has to offer events.

During the trip, the group stayed at the stunning 5* Electra Metropolis in the centre of Athens, part of the luxury Electra Hotels & Resorts group that boast properties in Athens, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Kefalonia.

“After enjoying a private transfer from the airport to the hotel, we were blown away by both the amazing hospitality and stunning décor at the hotel. The rooms were beautifully and stylishly designed, with marbled en-suite bathrooms, and large floor-to-ceiling windows.

However, the most impressive thing about the hotel was the rooftop bar, which offered incredible 360 degree views of the city, including the infamous acropolis.”

Despite arguably attracting many of its visitors due to its historical significance, Athens is a well-developed contemporary destination that combines tradition and modernity throughout the entire city.

“There’s so much to see in Athens, and it is a great place to experience both the fascinating Greek culture and history, as well as a modern city that boasts luxury accommodation, a vibrant nightlife, and great entertainment options.

One of the best things about the Greek culture is the outstanding hospitality, which we were fortunate enough to experience throughout the entire trip.

From the hotel, to the restaurants, and the shopping, we were greeted warmly – which had an amazing impact on the whole trip.”

The itinerary during the trip was jam-packed and truly showcased what Athens could offer to a corporate event – be it a conference, or an incentive focus.

“We took part in a lot of activities that would work perfectly for incentive groups, teambuilding, or breakout activities in between conference sessions. These included a ‘treasure hunt’ style activity around the city, an authentic cooking experience, and a visit to the Panathenaic Stadium – where the group took part in team sports and games.”

There really is something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re a foodie, nature-lover, or life of the party.

“My personal favourite part of the trip was how much incredible authentic Greek cuisine we were able to experience over the course of three days! Our visit to Balthazar, a popular restaurant and unique restaurant in Athens, was really special, and would be a great way to show event delegates the luxurious side of the city.

Following Balthazar, we unexpectedly carried on the night at ‘Box,’ a popular nightclub known for vibrant live performances that go on into the early hours. It was great to experience the VIP treatment, with table drinks service and reservation available, and again would be perfect for delegates who don’t want the night to end after dinner!”
