Austrian Retreat

No. of delegates: 50

Location: Austria

Event type: Employee Engagement

Industry: Capital Investment

Event objectives:

This capital investment company’s remote team had grown in size over the last year, leaving many who had never before met their colleagues face to face, let alone had the chance to forge strong working relationships outside of office hours. Sharing a company-wide interest for the outdoors, this team were looking to enjoy experiences that they don’t usually find the time for whilst strengthening their team dynamic, an opportunity to rest and relaxation, and seeing a different side to their colleagues. To achieve this, we designed a bespoke, retreat style event itinerary that catered to the interests of this active and outdoorsy team, whilst keeping the environmental impact of this event to a minimum.

Event overview:

Right from the start of the event planning process, we kept sustainability at the core of every decision we made, and decided to create all collateral for this event electronically. By creating a bespoke website, guests were kept up to date with the latest itineraries, menus, activity information, all housed within their own branded website. Any physical collateral that we couldn’t find digital alternatives to were kept as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, attendee wrist bands were made from biodegradable seed paper, and room drops were filled with chocolates, hand-made on site and beautifully presented in plastic-free packaging.

Since this team is based in Germany, we selected Austria as the location for this event in order to avoid carbon costly air travel. While most of the attendees enjoyed a coach ride to our event location, the CEO and two colleagues cycled the journey, further minimising the environmental impact of this event and kick-starting the outdoor activities for the weekend!

Once everyone had arrived, attendees enjoyed pre-drinks on the hotel terrace, where they had an informal update session whilst their luggage was portered up to their rooms. This welcome evening was followed by dinner and drinks in the hotel restaurant, a traditional Austrian hut, serving local, authentic cuisine.

The following day, attendees selected from a range of activities that had been coordinated to suit the team’s shared interest for the outdoors. The options ranged from mountain biking at a nearby world famous mountain biking park, a cycle tour, a hiking tour, go karting, or even just enjoying some free time in the hotel spa. This spa had recently been refurbished the month prior, and so our attendees were some of the first in the world to experience this luxurious treatment centre. They were able to make the most of the hotel’s facilities, including a 50m infinity pool set inside a natural bathing lake. They also enjoyed the opportunity to relax and unwind in the 9 saunas & steam baths, 6 pools, all seamlessly integrated with views of the incredible mountains that surround the hotel and designed by world-renowned architect, Hadi Teherani.

In the evening, guests were whisked away up the nearby mountain in privatised cable cars to enjoy the evening’s meals at nearby restaurant Alte Schmiede. This repurposed mill had been owned by the same family for generations, and served local delicacies in a warm, comforting and cosy environment. Guests enjoyed their meals from the mountain top, before heading back to the hotel bar for evening drinks.

To finish this incredible weekend in style, the attendees were transported back up the mountain the next morning for a flying fox zipline activity, travelling at up to 130 km/h!
