We’re Taking Action on Chronic Conditions in the Workplace
At First Event, we’ve launched a bespoke Chronic Condition Policy to strengthen the support we provide for our team.
We’re also proud to be serving as a headline sponsor of Harrogate’s upcoming Endo Gala, as part of a wider set of initiatives we’re delivering in support of Endometriosis Action Month.
Supporting Endometriosis Action Month across our corporate event agency
Throughout Endometriosis Action Month, we’re using our platforms to drive awareness and understanding of endometriosis and chronic conditions.
What we’re doing:
- Sharing interviews on our socials with team members about their experiences and proximity to the condition
- Lighting up our building bright yellow as a visible symbol of support
- Championing open conversations around chronic illness in the workplace
We’re also officially an Endometriosis Friendly accredited employer, and we continue to stand behind the Endometriosis UK Workplace Pledge all year round.
Launching our Chronic Condition Policy
We’re fully committed to providing meaningful, ongoing support for our colleagues, which is why we’ve developed and launched our own in-house Chronic Condition Policy.
Endometriosis, and many conditions like it, affect millions of people but are often misunderstood, undiagnosed and invisible in the workplace.
With the majority of people working in the corporate events industry being women, we believe it’s essential to lead the conversation. By doing so, we aim to normalise understanding and accommodation across our industry while ensuring our team, their families, and our wider community feel genuinely supported.
Embedding inclusive practices every day
Our Employee Relations Manager, Catherine Wallace, said:
“As an Endometriosis Friendly Employer, we already embed inclusive day-to-day practices including true flexible working, unlimited leave, remote working, and access to mental health first aiders that support colleagues living with chronic conditions.”
“Our new chronic illness policy builds on this foundation, formalising our commitments into a clear, consistent framework that ensures equitable support across the organisation. By strengthening psychological safety, clarity and accountability, the policy completes the jigsaw – reinforcing our values and future-proofing our approach as we grow. With women making up 79% of our team, this initiative reflects our deep commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and meaningful sector-wide change.”
Why this matters to us
Our Project Manager, Eva Hague, shared her experience:
“Living with endometriosis is a constant, often invisible battle that affects every part of my life – it’s not just a period condition. With diagnosis taking an average of eight years in the UK, so many of us are left managing pain often without being believed, and doing it quietly. I’m really proud to work for a company that recognises this. It means people don’t have to struggle alone anymore. By speaking out and supporting the Endo Gala, we’re helping to normalise the conversation because no one should have to push through endometriosis in silence just to keep up at work.”
